Well, it’s almost over. All the political adds, debating, endless news coverage… it’s finally almost over! I do believe it will be a close race - and not a land side. I would be in complete disbeliefe if the looser conseeded tonight! I posted my electoral map on Facebook with Obama wining 287 to McCains 251. With Ohio, Penn. Florida, and Colorado ALL going to McCain…. VA, MO, and NC all going to Obama. As posted below, we will be drinking with some friends tonight while watching the election coverage. Should be a good night! And may the best minipulator win!

After surfing the web, I have compiled these rules for a serious Election Night Drinking Game. Use some, or use them all - the choice is yours!!! Enjoy.

Election Night Drink Game

  • Every time the term “battleground state” is uttered, take a drink.
  • Every time young voters and Obama are referenced in the same breath, take a drink.
  • Every time McCain and Bush are referenced in the same breath, take a drink.
  • Every time John King thinks he’s John Madden trying to illustrate something on his CNN magical board, take a drink.
  • Every time a pundit says “The race was really over when …” or some variation, take two drinks.
  • Every time a battleground state is called for one candidate or the other, the first person to yell “Joe Sixpack” gets to distribute six drinks among as many people as they would like. If you’re drinking alone, you might as well drain your drink. It’s going to be a long, lonely night.
  • Every time someone says “the polls have just closed…” the first person to properly name a state the polls closed in gets to assign a drink to one other person.

  • Maybe take a drink every time a live feed is shown from a polling place in Ohio or Pennsylvania.

  • Every time you hear, “now this is just based on early returns, but we feel confident we can call {state X} for {candidate.}”.

  • Take a drink every time the phrase “the math” is used. As in: “From here, the math gets hard for John McCain” or “The math in North Carolina gets hard for Barack Obama…
  • take a drink everytime Obama’s race, McCain’s age, Palin’s hotness or Biden’s gaffing is mentioned

Break into Teams and drink accordingly:

Obama

If you think Obama is going to win, slug one down - dare we be so coarse in the Wine section? - every time you hear someone (pundit/host, etc.) say the words:

– Transformational
– Landslide
– First African American
– Youth vote
– Axelrod
– Working class
– Filibuster-proof
– Magic map (CNN only)
– White voters
– Irregularities
– New voters
– Bradley effect
– “Pollsters were wrong”
–Any time Obama Wins a State

If you hear a lot of this last one, then you’d better make a pot of coffee and line up the Advil. Obama fans may not want to get out of bed the next day. Or ever again.

McCain

For you McCainiacs, get comfy and then pop a shot - yes, you too, wine snobs - every time you hear utterances of these words:

– Maverick
– Pennsylvania
– Joe the Plumber
– Palin effect
– Real Americans
– Socialist
– Terrorist
– Ayers
– POW
– Negative
– Steve Schmidt
– “In the tank”
– The media
– ACORN
– Fraud

I’m not exactly a dooms day theorist, but with the current state of the economy, and credit in this country, the idea is starting to catch on. Truth be told, I don’t have a lot of money in the bank - or anywhere at the moment - so I’m not as worried as say someone with millions in the market. However, I am more  worried about this whole credit crunch than I am about the Dow dropping 700+ points.

Without credit, the world will practically come to a stand still. No more car loans, home loans, lines of credit… no credit period. While I’m not looking for a loan at them moment, I know in several years a car and a home may be the big ticket items we are looking to invest in. But if there the credit isn’t there, there won’t be a home or a car to drool over.

I do believe things will continue to get worse before they get better - the market will turn around - but when this all happens I’ll leave to the economists.

I posted this video a week ago when the DOW dropped 700+ points…

Well - it will be announced today, so I thought I’d drop my predictions first. On McCain’s Short List, there are a couple options that would be a dangerous for Obama if McCain goes there. Topping my list are Charlie Crist and Tom Ridge. Here’s what the NYTimes has to say about each of them:

TOM RIDGE: In many ways, Mr. Ridge might be an ideal choice for Mr. McCain. He is a former governor of Pennsylvania, a state Mr. McCain would love to put in play. He was the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He is also a dynamic presence on a stage, and his moderate politics could help Mr. McCain as he appeals to independent voters. But Mr. Ridge is a supporter of abortion rights, and that would be a very risky choice given Mr. McCain’s already uneasy relations with conservatives.

Charlie Crist: Mr. Crist’s appeal can be summed up in three words: Florida, Florida, Florida. He is governor of the state, and popular there, and could help John McCain carry the battleground that has been at the heart of the past two presidential elections. Not incidentally, Mr. Crist’s early and vigorous support for Mr. McCain helped Mr. McCain win the Florida primary in January, a victory that arguably nailed down his candidacy. Mr. Crist’s long bachelorhood may have been a political liability, but he proposed to Carole Rome in early July, and the wedding is scheduled for Dec. 12, 2008.

Tom Ridge I thought would be a nail in the caufin for McCain. Personally, I don’t like the guy so much, even though he is Pro Choice. Although that fact I think will get him pasted over by McCain…

That leaves good old Charlie. Crist at the helm in Florida is a hit in my book. He had my pick in the election for govenmer. However, he would not get by vote in November. While Crist’s leadership style has done some good things in Florida, it is McCain that we are electing as the Commander and Cheif. Crist would simply be there to offset some of the McCain we know today.

My perdiction: Charlie Crist. Let’s find out if I get this one right!

  1. Clinton (not likely, but I’m sticking with my original statement).
  2. Kathleen Sebelius (Kansas Governor and a great leader).

I’ll leave it at that. There are a couple others on Obamas short list, Joe Biden for one… Maybe he’ll announce soon!
